Ecology was coined in 1873 by German badboy evolutionary theorist & artist Ernst Haeckel, from the Greek oikos, or household, home. He knowingly manipulated drawings of embryos to prove his theories, but we don't mind, because he understands the word HOME and his drawings are gorgeous.
